TRADITIONAL DYE PLANTS OF MANIPUR

Manipur is one of the richest declares in plant biodiversity inside the North East states of India. Diverse ethnic organizations, residing in Manipur before the advantages of the chemical dyes into the express, used the dyes removed from the plants. Women in Manipur practice dyeing employing varieties of flower leaves, blossoms and tree barks. The natural inorganic dyes were obtained from plants and get used by weavers for providing different gradation of color in order to clothes, bamboo bedding baskets, flowerpots, fishing netting, etc . You will find more than 40 plants varieties in Manipur, which are used because dyes right from ancient instances, before fabric dyes were launched in the point out. This review is an effort to describe the dyes extracted from plants by the Meitei Community of Manipur. The conventional methods of removal as well as the herb parts found in the removal have also been pointed out briefly. These types of locally removed dyes are still used for dyeing of handloom products with the state, which are famous across the world for their indigenous designs and quality.

1 . Dye Yielding Plants
The process of dyeing was began during the reign of King Taothing-Mang (264- 364 AD). The system of dyeing progressed during the reign of California king Yanglao Keiphaba (969-984 AD), who introduced the beautiful fabric Hij Mayek (later called Hijam mayek) colourfully coloured, and put on by the girls folk of Manipur.
