In the 1800's, there were hardly any women that have been processed through the criminal rights system. The little amounts of women in prison were mostly prostitutes and habitual robbers in which case no person really cared for about their circumstance or their well being. Women inmates were mixed in together with the male inmates and were not treated any kind of differently in that case as the male inmates were treated. In today's female prison system, lots of things have improved; Women happen to be kept separately from the people needs are believed of as far more physically, emotionally, and psychologically unique then since those of males. In addition , the number of women has grown dramatically so that it is " the fastest growing segment states prison inhabitants (Prison Fellowship, 2011). ” In the 1800's there were 3 basic fights established that supported the separation of juvenile criminals from adult prisoners. 1 argument is that the penitentiary regimen was tough in tender children. The other basic disagreement was that juveniles would learn bad habits from older criminals and be embittered by the experience of confinement. Another argument was that adolescents could possibly be reformed in the event they were redirected early enough into corporations designed especially for people how old they are. The children has and still is considered misdirected and terribly lead when it comes to making blunders and breaking the law. If there are no variations between juveniles and adults, I believe the fact that chance of reforming them turns into very slender. In my opinion, there is an increase in the amount of people in prison, with no possibility of a second opportunity at performing the right thing. The purpose of penitentiary labor and work programs was to " save costs and generate profits that may offset jail expenses (Haslam, 1994), ” in addition to helping victimized families.
